History
Catholic missionary work in the Anadarko area began in 1877 when Benedictine monks from Sacred Heart Mission (now St. Gregory's Abbey, Shawnee) periodically visited the Anadarko Agency. In 1891, Fr. Isidore Ricklin, O.S.B. was appointed to start a permanent mission, and the chapel was formally established in 1892. From 1892 to 1975 the Benedictines administered St. Patrick's, and the associated boarding school served Native children for decades — including as the federal Anadarko Boarding School from 1911 to 1933. After 1972 the parish was transferred to the (Arch)Diocese of Oklahoma City, and diocesan priests took over administration.
