Our Patron Saint: St. Maurice
The parish takes its name from St. Maurice, the 3rd-century Christian commander of the Theban Legion. According to the parish's 'Our Parish' page, Maurice was born in 250 A.D. in Thebes, in ancient Egypt near the site of the Aswan Dam, and was an acknowledged Christian at a time when the Church was seen as a threat to the Roman Empire. Despite that, he rose to command a full Roman legion of 6,600 men — most of them fellow Christians — and became renowned as a disciplined soldier, a caring leader, and a man of deep faith who ate, worked, played, and prayed with his men.
