Parish History
St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception began in the early 1870s as a Jesuit mission on Santa Cruz Avenue in Los Gatos. In September 1912, the Jesuits of Santa Clara transferred the mission to the Archdiocese of San Francisco, and it became a parish in its own right. The original wooden church was moved in 1912 to the corner of Bean and Tait avenues, where it formed the nave of a new church completed in 1914. That church served the parish until 1961, when it was torn down and replaced by the present contemporary mission-style structure, dedicated December 30, 1962, with seating for 958.
