St. Jude Maronite Catholic Church is a Maronite Catholic mission parish in Taylorsville, Utah, serving the Lebanese-heritage faithful of the Salt Lake Valley for over 40 years. Founded on April 12, 1980, the parish celebrates the Qoorbono (Divine Liturgy) — the Maronite Eucharistic liturgy in which the words of consecration are prayed in the Syriac dialect of Aramaic — and blends ancient Eastern tradition with a warm, family-centered welcome. The parish belongs to the Maronite Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles, headed by Bishop Elias Zaidan, and is currently shepherded by Fr. Alejandro Landin as Administrator. The current church building is a former Protestant church purchased in 2019 and renovated for Catholic worship, with the Antiochian Cross featured on its exterior.

Our History & Founding
St. Jude was formally established on April 12, 1980, when Bishop Joseph Lennox Federal and Father Mark Benvegnu helped the Maronite community acquire the former St. Vincent de Paul Church building in Murray. Dedicated to St. Jude, patron saint of desperate cases, the new mission became a spiritual home for Lebanese-heritage and other Catholics throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Over the decades the parish grew in size, devotion, and outreach, eventually purchasing its current Taylorsville church — a former Protestant building — in 2019. The renovated church was dedicated in 2020, with Maronite Bishop Elias Zaidan joining Salt Lake Bishop Oscar Solis for the ceremony.

The parish is currently administered by Fr. Alejandro Landin, who was ordained a Maronite priest on June 1, 2024 for the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles and began serving St. Jude in July 2025. The diocese also continues to list Reverend Monsignor Joubran Bou-Merhi in connection with the parish — a Lebanese-born priest ordained in 1988, who previously served St. Jude across two assignments (reassigned to California in 2006 and returning in 2012) and who celebrates Mass in both Roman and Maronite rites.

Religious Education & Faith Formation
Faith formation at St. Jude is a lifelong journey shared by the whole parish community. The Religious Education program begins each fall — registration typically opens in August and classes begin in September — and serves children, youth, and adults with age-appropriate catechesis, sacramental preparation, and ongoing study. A small fee covers materials and retreats, but no family is ever turned away for financial reasons. Parents are invited to partner with catechists in nurturing faith at home.

The Maronite Catholic Tradition
The Maronite Church is one of the oldest Christian communities in the world, tracing its roots to St. Maron, a 5th-century Syriac monk whose followers eventually formed the Maronite Church. In full communion with the Pope, the Maronite Catholic Church preserves the Qoorbono (Divine Liturgy) — an ancient yet living worship tradition featuring prayers and chants in Syriac, a language very similar to the Aramaic spoken by Jesus. St. Jude is part of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles, one of the Maronite eparchies serving the United States, and the parish holds deep Lebanese cultural heritage alongside its Catholic faith.
