A Brief History
The land was once home to the Fox and Sac Indians, who ceded it in 1842. Irish Catholic settlers began establishing spiritual services through circuit riders, including Fr. John Brazill, who built multiple churches. In 1878, land was purchased for the first wooden church ($1,500), followed by a second stone church in 1911 ($8,000) with stained glass from Munich and a bell gifted by Mary Monaghan. Fr. James Troy oversaw the 1911 construction, though parishioners noted his preference for aesthetics over practicality, such as omitting a basement.
