History of the Parish

Catholic life in Villisca goes back to 1875, when local Catholics organized a parish and built a small frame church southwest of the town square the same year. That early congregation did not endure, and Villisca went without a Catholic church for many years. The present church on West High Street was built in 1947, and the parish was incorporated as a religious non-profit in the State of Iowa in November 1946. Since then the parish has been served from the larger neighboring town of Clarinda.
