Parish History
The parish traces its origins to 1893 and has ministered continuously for more than 125 years. A 1993 parish-published book, *St. Joseph Parish: 1893–1993*, is held by the University of Notre Dame Library and marks the parish's centennial. In 1973, a tornado devastated the church and parish hall in Union City; Sacred Heart's Knights of Columbus Council 767 in El Reno led rebuilding efforts, raising funds and man-hours and later helping to fund a new organ for St. Joseph's. The parish has long operated as a mission of Sacred Heart, El Reno, within the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.
