Saint Joseph Catholic Church is a historically Black Catholic parish in Largo, Maryland, canonically established in 1922 in the neighboring community of Glenarden and moved to its present site on St. Joseph Drive in 1967. The parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Washington and is currently pastored by Most Reverend Roy E. Campbell, Jr., Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, who has served St. Joseph since 2010. Today the parish offers daily and Sunday Masses in English, an active music ministry featuring a Gospel Choir and an African Choir, Eucharistic adoration, novenas, rosary devotion, and a wide range of parish ministries serving youth, outreach, and fellowship.

Parish History
Saint Joseph was canonically established in 1922 in the Glenarden/Ardwick Park area of Prince George's County, Maryland, within a community that the City of Glenarden's own history notes was marketed to African-American families by William R. Smith's Glenarden Development Company along the Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis Electric Railway. The parish was originally served by the Josephite Fathers (S.S.J.). The parish relocated from its original Glenarden site to its current address at 2020 St. Joseph Drive in Largo in 1967. The parish celebrated its 75th Anniversary in the late 1990s (during Father Michael King's pastorate) and its Centennial in 2022.

Parish Clergy & Staff
Saint Joseph is pastored by Most Reverend Roy E. Campbell, Jr., Auxiliary Bishop of Washington, who has served the parish since 2010 and who was named an Auxiliary Bishop by Pope Francis in 2017. He is assisted by Parochial Vicar Rev. Vincent T. Vu, Deacons Steven Nash and Kyle Simon, and a lay staff headed by Music Director Dr. Michael Clarke. Bishop Campbell continued as pastor after Pope Leo XIV accepted his resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop in May 2025.

Music & Liturgical Ministries
Music is a centerpiece of parish life at St. Joseph. The Music Ministry, directed by Dr. Michael Clarke, includes a Gospel Choir, a Children's Choir, a Youth Choir, and the SJCAF Traditional African Choir, and hosts an annual Music Ministry Concert that benefits the Theresa B. Leeke Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Children's Liturgy of the Word brings the Liturgy of the Word to younger children during Sunday Mass.

Long-standing organizations such as the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin, Holy Name Societies, Children of Mary, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and Knights of St. John with Ladies Auxiliary No. 14 remain part of parish life. Newer ministries include the Bereavement Ministry and the Good Samaritans Ministry, plus RCIA, Religious Education, youth ministry, and fellowship activities like Line Dancing and Beginner Line Dancing.
