History of the Parish

The Catholic roots of the Kermit parish reach back to the early 1930s in Wink, where Sacred Heart Church served local families. When Sacred Heart was closed in 1950, Catholic worship moved to Kermit with the building of St. Thomas Church on Bellaire Road. A decade later, the Hispanic Catholic community — already gathering at a St. Joseph Chapel — constructed a new church dedicated to Saint Joseph in 1960 for Spanish-speaking Catholics. The two churches have served as one parish ever since.
