Parish History
St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church was founded on September 4, 1971, when Fr. Robert Siebs celebrated the first Eucharist in the Knights of Columbus Hall. Bishop Victor Reed had announced the creation of a second Catholic parish in Enid by letter to Fr. Siebs and Fr. Marvin Leven on August 23, 1971. The parish quickly purchased land on West Willow Road, formed a building committee, and designed a church that was 'simple, warm, and native to the Southwest, adaptable to the traditional and new concepts at work in the Catholic Church, and flexible enough to accommodate the various activities of the church.' Local builder and parishioner Larry McClure built the original structure under the leadership of Fr. Larry Gatlin.
