St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish in Enid, Oklahoma, serving the faithful of northwest Oklahoma from its address at 110 North Madison. Founded in 1893, it is one of two Catholic parishes in Enid (along with St. Gregory the Great, which it shares a pastor with) and belongs to the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City. Parish History
Catholic life in Enid began on November 14, 1893, when Fr. Joseph Beck celebrated the first Mass in town in the home of Hugh Jordan, with 17 faithful Catholics present. The altar was a closed square piano — an object still preserved in the parish's Leven Center. Six years later, Fr. Gustave Depreitere, nephew of Bishop Theophile Meerschaert (the first bishop of Oklahoma), built Enid's first Catholic Church — a frame structure with steeple dedicated May 1, 1900 — and the Sisters of Divine Providence opened St. Joseph's Academy in 1904. The parish's present Gothic-style church was built under the second pastor, Fr. Renier Sevens, and dedicated April 22, 1922. After decades of growth that produced Memorial High School and St. Mary's Hospital, the parish weathered the closing of Catholic institutions in the late 20th century — Memorial High School in 1968 and St. Joseph's grade school in 1975 — and has since rebounded with the launch of Our Daily Bread and the 2001 reopening of St. Joseph Catholic School.

Parish Staff & Clergy
The parish is led by Rev. Mark E. Mason as Pastor and Rev. Robert Miller as Parochial Vicar. Fr. Mason also serves as pastor of nearby St. Gregory the Great, reflecting the close collaboration between the two Enid parishes. Two deacons — Deacon Tony Crispo and Deacon Val Ross (who directs Our Daily Bread) — assist with parish life. A lay staff runs religious education, youth ministry, Hispanic ministry, finance, evangelization, and the parish office.

St. Joseph Catholic School
The parish's parish school, St. Joseph Catholic School, sits on the same Madison Street campus. The original St. Joseph's Academy opened in 1904 under the Sisters of Divine Providence; the high school closed in 1968 and the grade school in 1975. The parish reopened the school through the Vision 2000 campaign, and on August 9, 2001 Archbishop Eusebius J. Beltran re-dedicated the building. The school gained full state accreditation in 2005 and is operated jointly with St. Gregory the Great parish.

Religious Education & OCIA
Faith formation is offered for both children and adults. Children's religious education classes meet Sundays at 9:30 AM; adults preparing for full initiation into the Catholic Church are formed through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly RCIA), which meets Tuesday evenings.

Youth & Young Adult Ministry
The parish runs a Life Teen youth program for high schoolers and an Edge program for middle-schoolers, meeting Wednesday evenings at St. Gregory the Great Parish Hall, plus a Catholic Young Adults group for older parishioners.

Hispanic Ministry
The parish maintains an active Hispanic Ministry in English and Spanish. A weekly Sunday Mass is celebrated in Spanish, and the Hispanic Ministry coordinator (Brigitte Duran) supports sacramental preparation, faith formation, and community life for Spanish-speaking parishioners. A Spanish-language baptismal seminar meets at 5:00 PM in the parish's LightHouse.

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen
Our Daily Bread is the parish's signature outreach — an ecumenical soup kitchen open five days a week that serves the poor and needy of Enid. Volunteers from across the community come together to feed their neighbors, and in early 2026 the ministry was recognized for 42 years of continuous service. Deacon Val Ross directs the ministry.

Parish Organizations
Two long-established Catholic lay organizations call St. Francis Xavier home. The Knights of Columbus host an annual drive-thru BBQ dinner (held in April) and support St. Joseph Catholic School through events such as the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper. The Catholic Daughters of the Americas meet on the second Sunday of the month in the Franciscan Room and lead the Saturday 4:30 PM Rosary before Mass.

Sacraments
The parish celebrates all seven sacraments. Parents attend a baptismal seminar before their child's baptism (English sessions on the second Sunday in the Franciscan Room; Spanish sessions at 5:00 PM Sunday in the LightHouse). First Reconciliation and First Communion are received through the Religious Education program. Confirmation is celebrated jointly with St. Gregory the Great; candidates attend a retreat and a Confirmation Mass with the Archbishop in early March. Couples contact the parish office for marriage preparation, and the sick may request Anointing of the Sick by calling the parish.
