Saint Anthony of Padua Parish in Hugo, Colorado, is a small-town Catholic community rooted in the faith of Eastern Plains settlers and immigrants. Founded as an independent parish in 1908 after an earlier St. John the Baptist church was destroyed by a tornado, it has served generations of ranching and farming families under the Archdiocese of Denver. Today it continues as a tight-knit Eucharistic community devoted to the parish’s patron, St. Anthony of Padua, and to living the Gospel on Colorado’s wide-open plains.

History
The parish traces its origins to an 1888 St. John the Baptist church on Walnut Street that was destroyed in an 1896 tornado. Saint Anthony of Padua was established as an independent parish in September 1908 under Rev. P.U. Sasse, with the present church’s cornerstone laid in 1911.
