Originally founded in 1891 as an independent parish for the Catholics of Reserve Township, St. Aloysius today shares a single pastoral team and faith community with All Saints Church (Etna), Holy Spirit Church (Millvale), and St. Bonaventure Church (Glenshaw/Shaler), which were combined into Saint Matthew Parish on January 4, 2021 under founding pastor Fr. James R. Gretz, DMin. Weekend Mass is celebrated at St. Aloysius on Saturday at 4:00 PM, with Saturday confessions from 3:00–3:45 PM. About Saint Matthew Parish
Saint Matthew Parish was founded on January 4, 2021, when the former All Saints (Etna), St. Bonaventure (Glenshaw/Shaler), Holy Spirit (Millvale), and St. Aloysius (Reserve Township) parishes were merged by the Diocese of Pittsburgh into a single Catholic community. Rev. James R. Gretz, DMin was appointed the founding pastor. The parish operates across four historic church buildings and runs shared faith formation, youth, music, outreach, and business ministries from its parish office.

History of St. Aloysius Parish (Reserve Township)
St. Aloysius Parish had its beginnings at a meeting on November 26, 1891, held at the home of John B. Eichler, to address the need for a church and school for Reserve Township Catholics. Within a month, $3,955 had been collected from 53 families, the ground was donated by Aloise Niederst, and a substantial gift came from Michael Schmitt. Bishop Richard Phelan named the parish St. Aloysius, the cornerstone was laid July 10, 1892, and the church was solemnly dedicated on January 8, 1893. By 1957 the parish had outgrown its facilities, and a combined church-and-school building was dedicated on October 4, 1958. The parish continues today as one of the four worship sites of Saint Matthew Parish.

Faith Formation & Religious Education
The parish's Children's Faith Formation (CCD/CFF) program serves preschool through 8th grade, with both in-class and homeschool options. Registration for the 2026-27 school year is open, with a $10-per-child discount for those who register by May 15. The parish also runs a Vacation Bible / Church Camp during the summer. Youth Ministry — 'Arise' SMP
All high school teens are invited to weekly Youth Ministry gatherings on Wednesdays from 7 PM to 9 PM in the youth rooms of the Faith Formation Center on the St. Bonaventure Campus. The ministry is active on Instagram (@stmatthewpgh_ariseym). A new Junior Ladies of Charity service group has been launched for young women in grades 7 through 12 who want to get involved in community and parish service — contact Morgan Hall at [email protected] or extension 415.

Music Ministry
Music Ministry at Saint Matthew Parish supports liturgy across all four worship sites under the direction of Terry Schiebel and Alyssa Yealy, with Katelyn Denman serving as Associate of Music Ministry. The program welcomes instrumentalists and singers to enrich weekend and holy day Masses.

Social Outreach & Safe Environment

Saint Matthew Parish provides low-gluten hosts (100 ppm, approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) for Catholics with celiac disease or similar disorders.
