Saint Aidan Parish is a Roman Catholic community in Wexford, Pennsylvania, in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, formed in 2020 from the merger of the historic parishes of St. Alphonsus and St. Alexis. Today the combined parish worships across two campuses: the St. Alphonsus Campus at 201 Church Road and the St. Alexis Campus at 10090 Old Perry Highway. Mass is celebrated in English at multiple Sunday and weekday times across both campuses, with regular Reconciliation and Eucharistic Adoration as well. The parish is named for St. Aidan of Ferns, the 7th-century Irish missionary bishop who first brought Christianity to southeastern Ireland.

Parish Identity & Patron Saint
Saint Aidan Parish is named for St. Aidan of Ferns (also known as Máedóc or Mogue), a 7th-century Irish bishop and missionary. According to the parish's own reflection on the patron, Aidan was born around 550 in County Cavan, Ireland, was held as a child hostage by the High King of Ireland, was released after asking that all the other hostages be freed too, and then studied at Kilmuine in Wales under St. David. He returned to Ireland in 580, served the area in and around Ferns (including County Wexford), and became the first bishop of Ferns and chief bishop of the region. He died on January 31, 632, which the parish celebrates as its patronal feast day. The name 'Aidan' means 'fire' — the source of the flame in the parish's emblem — and Aidan should not be confused with the better-known St. Aidan of Lindisfarne, who lived around the same period but ministered in a different region.

History of the Parish
Saint Aidan Parish in its current form was created in July 2020, when the Diocese of Pittsburgh merged the historic parishes of St. Alphonsus and St. Alexis in Wexford. St. Alphonsus Church, on Church Road, has roots going back to 1840 (its dedication is recorded as July 19, 1840, in GCatholic's records). After the merger, the combined parish took the new name Saint Aidan Parish and worships across both former parish campuses: St. Alphonsus (201 Church Road) and St. Alexis (10090 Old Perry Highway). In Spring 2023, under then-pastoral leadership, parishioners completed a survey of their faith journey; a team of parishioners — including Deacon Al Heiles, Pam Surano, Barb Griffith, Greg Staresinic, Allison Alberts, and Leslie Mitros — worked with consultant Jessica Adams of the Catholic Leadership Institute to evaluate the data and articulate the parish's Mission, Vision, and three-year Priorities (Engagement, Faith Formation, and Sunday Worship).

Faith Formation & Religious Education
Saint Aidan Parish's Faith Formation pages list three main programs: Faith Formation for Children, Youth Group: LifeTeen, and Young Adult Ministry. The parish also operates a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) atrium at the St. Alexis Campus, serving children ages 3–6 (Level I) and 6–9 (Level II); the atrium is led by Darcy Osby ([email protected]) and notes experience with special needs. CGS is a Montessori-based approach to the religious formation of children, grounded in Scripture and the liturgy.

Mercy on the Mount Outreach Ministry
Mercy on the Mount is the parish's flagship outreach initiative, launched in 2025 under Divine Mercy & Pastoral Outreach Minister Sr. Pawla Witula, a social worker brought to Saint Aidan in August 2025 by the pastor to expand parish outreach. The ministry provides food, clothing, and toiletries to those in need, and includes a baby boutique operated in partnership with Walking with Moms in Need. The parish plans to coordinate with the long-standing Ladies of Charity and other ministries to expand outreach. A grand unveiling was held on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 12, 2026, immediately following the 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Alexis.

Women's Ministry: She Shall Be Called Woman
'She Shall Be Called Woman' (SHE) is a parish women's faith-sharing program described as a place for women who want to be truly known and loved on their journey with the Lord. The program meets in the Parish Office (directly across from the front of St. Alexis Church) on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., starting October 1 (per the parish's announcement). Childcare is available; families can contact Darcy Osby to sign up children.

Parish Life: Festival, Holy Week, and Events
Beyond Mass and devotions, Saint Aidan Parish runs an active calendar of parish-wide events. The annual Parish Festival is a major community gathering held Thursday–Saturday in late July/early August (July 30 – August 1, 2026), with hours of 5–10 p.m. Thursday and 5–11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; free shuttle parking is provided at North Allegheny Senior High School, 10375 Perry Highway, Wexford. The parish also publishes a detailed Holy Week schedule covering Palm Sunday blessings in the parking lot, the Chrism Mass at St. Paul Cathedral, the Triduum (Mass of the Lord's Supper at St. Alexis with Adoration until midnight), Good Friday Stations and Celebration of the Lord's Passion, Holy Saturday blessing of food baskets and Easter egg hunt, and the Easter Vigil.
