Sagrada Familia Mission is one of five mission chapels served from St. Anthony of Padua Church in Pecos, the mother parish of the upper Pecos valley. The Pecos parish itself dates to the early Mexican period, when Hispanic villagers began settling north of the abandoned Pueblo of Pecos in the 1820s; the present San Antonio de Padua church was built 1903–1906 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Community & Local Memory
Rowe is a tiny historic village whose Hispanic Catholic families have long been tied to the Pecos parish and its mission chapels. A 2007 blog post by a former Rowe parishioner recalls mid-20th-century Sundays at the chapel and names local figures like Tranquilino Garcia, who reworked the property's old rock (tapia) boundary wall in the 1950s, lowering it and finishing it with cedar posts and woven wire. Family burials in the chapel's rear cemetery tie generations of Rowe's Hispanic families to the mission.
