History
Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish was founded in 1885 by Polish immigrants in South Scranton. The cornerstone was laid on November 15, 1885, after 110 Polish immigrants petitioned Bishop William O'Hara for a Polish-speaking parish. The church has been a cornerstone of the South Side faith community for over 130 years.
Consolidation
In November 2023, Saint John Neumann Parish and Saint Paul of the Cross Parish in South Scranton consolidated to form Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish. Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church became the primary worship site of the new parish.
