Sacred Heart Parish in Saint Marys, Pennsylvania, is the second Catholic church in the town, established to serve Irish immigrants who struggled with sermons in German at the original St. Mary's Church. Founded in 1874 and dedicated in 1876, it has been staffed by Benedictine priests since its inception. The current church building, a Gothic structure with stained glass windows from Cologne, Germany, was dedicated in 1907 and remodeled in 1999. The parish is active with numerous ministries and welcomes new members to join in worship and community life.

History
The idea for a second parish in Saint Marys began in 1866 for Irish immigrants who had difficulty understanding sermons at St. Mary's Church, then called the 'German Church'. Fundraisers started in 1874, and the original Sacred Heart Church was dedicated January 18, 1876. A larger church was dedicated in 1907, and the last remodeling occurred in 1999. The parish has been staffed by Benedictine priests since its founding.
