Parish Identity & Mission

Sacred Heart Church identifies as a parish of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston located on FM 359 North in Pattison, Texas. Its motto, "Inviting All to Become One In Christ," frames the parish's bilingual, rural ministry to the communities of Pattison and Brookshire. The parish is devoted to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and its identity flows directly from more than a century of Catholic worship on this stretch of Waller County.

History of Sacred Heart

Sacred Heart traces its origin to the first Mass in Brookshire on December 23, 1914, celebrated by Fr. Paul Nemic of Immaculate Conception in Sealy. Catholic faithful — a small minority among mostly Baptist, Methodist, and Apostolic residents — gathered in private homes and in a chapel built within the Brookshire Times newspaper office until the 1921 completion of the dedicated Sacred Heart Chapel, blessed with a High Mass on August 5, 1921. Over the following decades the chapel was served by rotating priests from neighbouring parishes and, from the mid-1950s onward, by a succession of Basilian Fathers.

• 1914 — First Mass in Brookshire at the home of H. N. Savoy (Fr. Paul Nemic).
• 1915 — Andersons open a chapel in the Brookshire Times office.
• 1917 — Mrs. J. W. Campbell donates land for a chapel.
• 1921 — First High Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel (Aug. 5).
• 1930 — Fr. A. J. Nicholson assigned as first administrator.
• 1930s — Fr. Lad Klimeck begins weekly Masses and CCE classes.
• 1950s — Basilian Fathers (CSB) take over administration.
• 1962 — Bishop Wendolyn Nold blesses a new, larger Brookshire church (capacity 300).
• 1992 — Fire destroys the 1962 Brookshire church.
• 1990s — Parish relocates to its present FM 359 North site in Pattison.

Clergy & Staff

Sacred Heart is currently led by Rev. Christopher Meyer, who was appointed Administrator effective May 5, 2025. Fr. Christopher was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston on June 4, 2022, after formation at St. Mary's Seminary; he previously served for nearly three years as parochial vicar at St. Faustina in Fulshear before being assigned to Sacred Heart. Bilingual Catholic Life in Pattison & Brookshire

Sacred Heart serves both English- and Spanish-speaking Catholics across Pattison, Brookshire, and the surrounding rural areas of Waller County. The Spanish Sunday Mass at 11:30 AM and the Spanish Saturday Vigil at 7:00 PM are regular fixtures of the parish's weekly rhythm, reflecting the growing Hispanic Catholic presence in the western Houston–Katy corridor. Visitors and newcomers are welcomed at every liturgy.
