Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Iglesia Católica del Sagrado Corazón) is a bilingual Roman Catholic parish in south Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, serving a predominantly Hispanic Catholic community with Mass celebrated in both English and Spanish. The parish belongs to the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and traces its roots to 1910–1911, when Bishop Theophile Meerschaert established it as the second Catholic parish south of the North Canadian River. Worship today centers on a historic church building dedicated in 1922, daily and weekend Masses, weekday Eucharistic Adoration, and a robust Religious Education program. Parish History
In 1909, Bishop Theophile Meerschaert purchased ten lots from the Sisters of Mercy on land bordering Mount St. Mary's, almost directly opposite the Mount's front door. On November 9, 1910, the Bishop appointed Fr. J. F. McGuire as the first pastor of what would become Sacred Heart, then the second parish south of the river. The first Mass was celebrated on April 11, 1911, in the recreation hall of Mount St. Mary's. A multi-purpose wooden building — used as both church and school — was the first structure on the new site; it was moved in 1919 to S. W. 28th and Shartel, where it continued in use as a school.

Sacred Heart Catholic School
Sacred Heart Catholic School is a ministry of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving students from PreK 4 through 8th grade. The school's mission is 'to create virtuous disciples through academic excellence and Catholic Tradition.' The school partners with parents as the primary educators in their children's spiritual and moral formation, and its philosophy stresses respect for the dignity of each person, personal responsibility, and a commitment to peace and justice. School hours are 8:00 AM to 3:10 PM.

School History
Catholic education at Sacred Heart began alongside the parish itself, with the first church building also serving as classrooms divided by a canvas curtain. That multi-purpose structure served the parish for nine years until the new church was constructed. The basement of the new church was finished in 1920, and the building was dedicated on January 2, 1922. In 1924, a new brick school was built and served for about twenty years. It was replaced by another school, dedicated in September 1946 by Bishop Eugene J. McGuinness, and a gymnasium was added to the campus a decade later.

Religious Education / Educación Religiosa (Catecismo)
The parish Religious Education program assists parents — the primary educators of their children's faith — in forming children and teens in the Catholic faith from 2nd through 12th grade. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish and meet on weekday evenings from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. The program includes preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion, a two-year Confirmation process, the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC), and Pre-Communion and Pre-Confirmation years.
