About Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church · Remington, Indiana
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish located at 124 N. New York Street in Remington, Indiana. A cornerstone of the Remington community since 1875, the parish is one of three faith communities that make up the St. Michael the Archangel Pastorate of the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana, alongside St. Augustine Parish in Rensselaer and Sts. Peter and Paul in Goodland. The parish currently celebrates Mass on Sunday mornings and Thursday/First Saturday mornings, with confessions offered before and after Masses. In December 2020 a serious fire damaged the basement and first floor of the historic church, and the Diocese undertook a full restoration of the interior, balcony, and parish spaces — a project that reaffirmed the parish's role as a long-standing presence in this small Jasper County town.

About Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish
Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Catholic parish at 124 N. New York Street in Remington, Indiana, serving the Catholic community of Remington and the surrounding Jasper County area. Founded in 1875, it is one of the longest-established parishes in this part of northwestern Indiana. Today it operates as part of the St. Michael the Archangel Pastorate, a tri-parish grouping formed in 2020 under the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana.
History
Sacred Heart was established in 1875 and has worshipped and ministered continuously from its New York Street location for nearly 150 years. On December 28, 2020 a fire that began beneath the floor on the south side of the church caused significant damage to the basement and first floor; the alarm system and rapid response by the Remington Fire Department prevented total loss, and the stained-glass windows survived. The Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana subsequently commissioned a comprehensive restoration of the interior, balcony, and basement — roughly 10,830 square feet covering the sanctuary, cry room, vesting and working sacristies, choir balcony, parish hall, kitchen, youth room, restrooms, and storage rooms.
- 1875 — parish founded
- Dec. 28, 2020 — basement and first-floor fire; parishioners shifted to Goodland for Sunday Mass
- 2021–2022 — full restoration overseen by the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana with Tonn and Blank Construction
