Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Peckville, Pennsylvania, is a vibrant Catholic community in the Diocese of Scranton. History
Sacred Heart of Jesus began as a mission church of Saint Mary Assumption Parish in Jessup. The original church was built on Main Street in Peckville in 1942 and was served by Rev. William Boyd as administrator until 1946, when Rev. Joseph Gilbride was appointed the first pastor and the community became an independent parish on April 24, 1946. The parish celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2022 and the present church building its 50th anniversary around 2021–2022.
Worship
The parish gathers for the Saturday Vigil at 4:00 PM and Sunday Masses at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. Weekday Masses are celebrated Wednesday through Friday at 12:00 PM, with a Holy Hour before Thursday Mass. First Friday includes a Holy Hour at 11:00 AM followed by Mass at noon. Masses are livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
Community Life
Sacred Heart of Jesus is a growing parish with more than 3,000 parishioners and over 250 students in faith formation. The parish has gained approximately 500 families in recent years and is known for its welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere and outreach to those affected by addiction.
