The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a small Catholic parish in Crown Point, New York, on the shores of Lake Champlain. It belongs to the Diocese of Ogdensburg and is one of three parishes that make up the Southern Adirondack Catholics collaborative, alongside St. Mary's in Ticonderoga and Our Lady of Lourdes in Schroon Lake. Sacred Heart offers Sunday and weekday Mass, the Sacraments, Christian formation for children and adults, and a parish community shaped by more than a century and a half of Catholic life in the Adirondack region. History of Sacred Heart
Catholic worship at Crown Point goes back to 1731, when Rev. J. Baptiste Lajus celebrated the first recorded Mass within the present Diocese of Ogdensburg at Fort Frédéric. Over the next 28 years the Fort's chapel register recorded 31 marriages, 245 baptisms, and 198 deaths. The parish itself was incorporated on August 8, 1874, and the church was built in 1875 for about $5,000 under an agreement signed by Father George Jarmine, pastor of Ticonderoga, and trustees including Thomas Stanton.

Sacraments
The parish prepares parishioners for the full sacramental life of the Church. Couples are asked to begin marriage preparation at least six months in advance, and adults seeking membership or full initiation are welcomed into the OCIA process. The Anointing of the Sick and Communion calls to the homebound are arranged through the parish office.

Faith Formation & Christian Education
Religious instruction has been part of Sacred Heart since the basement of the 1955 rectory was fitted as classrooms. Today the parish runs ongoing Faith Formation Classes for children, Confirmation Classes for older youth, and the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults for adults considering membership in the Catholic Church or completing their initiation.

Music & Liturgical Ministries
Sacred Heart maintains a Youth Choir that practices during the week and sings at Sunday Mass, carrying on the parish tradition of generous lay involvement in liturgy.

Parish Life & Community
Sacred Heart describes itself as a community 'united in the Word of God, fed by the Holy Eucharist, and strengthened by the sacraments.' The parish gathers not only for Mass but through groups such as the Women's Ministry, which is one of the named lay communities of the parish. As the parish's centennial booklet put it, Sacred Heart was 'poor in money during the first 100 years but very rich in generous friends and benefactors,' and that spirit of time and talent still shapes parish life.
