About Sacred Heart of Jesus · Cornwall, Pennsylvania

Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic parish in Cornwall, Pennsylvania, in the Diocese of Harrisburg. The parish traces its roots to 1886, when the first Sacred Heart of Jesus Church was built on the property; that structure was dismantled and relocated to the present site in 1914. On February 7, 2016, Bishop Ronald W. Gainer of the Diocese of Harrisburg dedicated a newly constructed worship space designed to echo the charm of the original building, while the historic stained glass windows, large wooden doors, and the cornerstones dated 1886 and 1914 were preserved and incorporated into the new church. Today the parish serves roughly 450 registered families (about 1,500 individuals) with daily and weekend Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, First Friday and First Saturday devotions, and a Religious Education program.

Why belong here

Sacred Heart of Jesus offers a daily-Mass schedule uncommon for a parish of its size, with weekday Mass Monday through Friday plus a robust weekend schedule, so working Catholics and school families can find a time that fits. The parish is deeply Eucharistic, with weekly Thursday Adoration, all-night First Friday Adoration, a First Saturday program of rosary, devotions, Benediction, Mass and confessions, and a daily sung Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 PM. With about 450 registered families, it's large enough to support a Religious Education program, organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and the Council of Catholic Women, and parish social gatherings — while still feeling like a close-knit faith community in the Lebanon County countryside.

Our Story & History

Sacred Heart of Jesus has been a Catholic presence on Cornwall Road since 1886, when the first church was built. That original structure was dismantled and moved to the current site in 1914, and the parish worshipped there for more than a century before outgrowing it. In 2016 the parish built a new church that intentionally echoes the design of the old one, preserving the 1886 and 1914 cornerstones, the stained glass windows, and the large wooden doors so the heritage of the parish is visible the moment one walks in.

  • Original Sacred Heart of Jesus Church built 1886
  • Original building dismantled and moved to the present site in 1914
  • New church dedicated February 7, 2016 by Bishop Ronald W. Gainer of Harrisburg

  • Original stained glass windows and main doors reused in the 2016 building
