About Sacred Heart Mission · Nara Visa, New Mexico
Sacred Heart Mission is a small Roman Catholic mission church serving the tiny community of Nara Visa, in northeastern Quay County, New Mexico, along the high plains near the Texas state line. It is one of four mission churches (the others being St. Anthony in Logan, St. Joan of Arc in Montoya, and Our Lady of Guadalupe in San Jon) administered by St. Anne Parish in nearby Tucumcari. Because Sacred Heart has no resident priest, Mass is celebrated only on the first and third Sundays of the month at 2:00 p.m. by a visiting priest from St. Anne who rotates among the four mission communities. The mission belongs to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santa Fe and shares its clergy, bulletin, and sacramental records with the mother parish in Tucumcari.

Why belong here
Sacred Heart Mission is the only Catholic presence in the small ranching community of Nara Visa, and because it is one of four missions served by a single pastor from St. Anne in Tucumcari, parishioners who attend Mass here are joining a tight-knit rural Catholic family that shares clergy, religious education, OCIA (formerly RCIA), and a weekly bulletin across Logan, Montoya, Nara Visa, and San Jon. It is a place where a Catholic in eastern Quay County can still find the sacraments celebrated in their own village on the first and third Sundays of the month.

Sacred Heart Mission in Nara Visa
Sacred Heart Mission is the Catholic mission church of the tiny community of Nara Visa, an unincorporated railroad village in northeastern Quay County in eastern New Mexico, just south of the Texas panhandle border. Classified by GCatholic as a mission church (Type: Church) within the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Santa Fe, it is one of four rural mission congregations tended by a single pastor stationed at St. Anne Parish in Tucumcari, about 75 km (47 miles) to the southwest. The chapel is described in regional press as 'a small but picturesque white chapel that sits on a hill overlooking the northeastern Quay County village' and as a 'sacred survivor' that has outlasted many other institutions in a community whose population has steadily declined since its railroad-era boom.

Visitors are always advised to confirm directly with the St. Anne Parish Office before traveling, especially around holy days, Advent/Lent, or special events.
