History
The parish began in 1865 with Masses in the Lake George Court House. Construction of the Sacred Heart Church began in 1874, with the cornerstone laid on September 6. The church was built by local craftsmen in Gothic style using native stone. A chapel on the east side of the lake, originally a mission church, was built in 1921 and later transferred to Blessed Sacrament Parish. It was reattached to Sacred Heart in 1968 and closed in 2009 due to priest availability concerns. A renovation project began in 2006, culminating in a new church dedicated in April 2011 with design incorporating 1874 styling and Adirondack elements.
