Why belong here

Sacred Heart is a close-knit rural parish where Catholics in the Kettle Falls area can worship together, receive the sacraments, and share life with their neighbors. The parish belongs to the Tri-Parish Catholic Community, which means parishioners benefit from shared clergy, a wider pool of ministries, and Tri-County outreach like the Friendship Feast. Active lay ministries — from the Knights of Columbus and Eucharistic Adoration to OCIA, religious education, music, lectors, greeters, and prayer lines — give newcomers many ways to get involved and be known by name.

About Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Parish is the Catholic community of Kettle Falls, a small town in Stevens County in northeastern Washington. The parish is one of three in the 'Tri-Parish Catholic Community,' joined with Immaculate Conception in Colville and Pure Heart of Mary in Northport. Together they share a pastor, office staff, and a wide range of ministries. The parish office is in Colville, but Sacred Heart's church building stands on Highway 395 in Kettle Falls where weekly Mass and Eucharistic adoration are offered.

Parish History

Sacred Heart's story reaches back more than a century, to the early settlement of the Colville Basin during the mining and lumber-boom era. The first church was built in 1905 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart; it was enlarged in 1910 and moved to its present site at 8th and High Street in 1916. A parish school opened in 1917, staffed first by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth from Kentucky and from 1924 by the Sisters of St. Francis. A new church and rectory were constructed in 1929 at a combined cost of $87,168.97. The school — by then known as Sacred Heart Academy — educated hundreds of children from across the Basin for 76 years before closing in 1993.
