History and Background
Sacred Heart in Hinton is a 20th- and 21st-century Catholic mission supported by St. Eugene's in Weatherford. According to Marquette University's archival guide, diocesan priests at St. Joseph in Geary originally established and attended to Sacred Heart Mission in Hinton (Caddo County). From 1940 to 1970 the mission was administered by Oklahoma City diocesan priests assigned to St. Eugene's, Weatherford, and that arrangement has continued to the present. (The well-known historic 'Sacred Heart Mission' founded by Benedictine Father Isidore Robot in 1877 is a different site — in Pottawatomie County near Asher — and is not the same parish as this Hinton mission.)
