About Sacred Heart · Eagle Pass, Texas

Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a bilingual (English/Spanish) Roman Catholic parish located at 2055 Williams Street in Eagle Pass, Texas, in Maverick County on the U.S.–Mexico border. The parish was established in 1966 and was originally part of the Archdiocese of San Antonio before becoming one of the founding parishes of the newly erected Diocese of Laredo in 2000. Sacred Heart is staffed by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (O.M.I.) and also has pastoral responsibility for the San Juan de los Lagos Catholic Mission in El Indio. It serves a vibrant borderland Catholic community with a full weekly Mass schedule in both English and Spanish, plus ongoing faith formation for children and adults.

Sacred Heart is a welcoming bilingual parish at the heart of Eagle Pass, offering four Sunday Masses (one in English, three in Spanish), daily Mass Monday through Saturday, weekly Eucharistic Adoration on Thursdays, and Saturday confessions — making daily sacramental life accessible to working families on both sides of the border. Beyond the liturgy, the parish runs a CCD religious-education program for children, a Youth Group for grades 7–12, RCIA in English and Spanish for adults seeking the sacraments, Pre-Matrimonial formation, and parish missions to El Indio. It is also one of the larger O.M.I.-staffed borderland parishes, with four permanent deacons assisting the priest in ministry.

Sacred Heart Catholic Church was established in 1966 and was originally part of the San Antonio Archdiocese. In 2000 the parish became part of the newly erected Diocese of Laredo. Sacred Heart is pastored by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and assisted by four permanent deacons. Father Pablo Wilhelm, O.M.I., preceded the current leadership before being transferred to Roma, Texas. Father Peter Antonisamy, O.M.I., has been with the parish since 2013, having come from Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and Shrine in Midland.

Faith Formation & Religious Education (CCD)

The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program provides Catholic religious education to parish children attending public schools. Classes meet once a week and prepare children for the sacraments of Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation. The program is staffed by parish catechists and coordinated from the CCD Office.

RCIA — Becoming Catholic

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is offered in both English and Spanish for adults 18 and older who seek Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation. Classes are taught by volunteer catechists and form part of the parish's ongoing evangelization ministry.

Pre-Matrimonial Program

Couples preparing for marriage at Sacred Heart participate in a Pre-Matrimonial formation program covering the theology, spirituality, and practical dimensions of Catholic married life. The program is led by Deacon Héctor R. Martínez.

Sacraments

Sacred Heart celebrates all seven Catholic sacraments and publishes clear guidelines for each on its website. Sacramental preparation is required for Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Matrimony, and Quinceañera celebrations.

Youth Ministry

The Sacred Heart Youth Group gathers every Wednesday evening in the Parish Hall for middle- and high-school youth (grades 7–12) from across the Eagle Pass area, combining faith, fellowship, games, praise, and food.

Sacred Heart Parish oversees the San Juan de los Lagos Catholic Mission in El Indio, Texas, extending the parish's pastoral reach into the small communities of western Maverick County.

Diocese of Laredo

Since 2000 Sacred Heart has been a parish of the Diocese of Laredo, which was erected by Pope John Paul II on July 3, 2000. The diocese was formed from portions of the Diocese of Corpus Christi and the Archdiocese of San Antonio, covering the counties of Dimmit, Jim Hogg, La Salle, Maverick, Webb, Zapata, and Zavala. The first bishop, James Anthony Tamayo, was installed after serving as Auxiliary Bishop of Galveston–Houston; the Apostolic Letters were formally read by the Apostolic Nuncio on August 9, 2000.
