History of the Parish
Sacred Heart traces its beginnings to the mission activity of New Orleans archdiocesan priests based at Notre Dame du Rosaire in Larose, who first served the Cut Off / Cote Blanche area around 1910–1915. The parish was formally established ca. 1915, and it remained under archdiocesan care until 1977, when it was transferred to the newly created Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux. Local histories credit the construction of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart in 1899 and note the establishment of the parish as a mission in 1923 that grew into today's church through successive repairs, enlargements and remodelings.
