Our History
The first Catholic Church in Gaffney was St. Patrick, dedicated in 1920, which was torn down in 1934. The land was sold in 1953. The Sacred Heart parish began in 1950 in the Caggiano family’s basement, with the first Mass attended by 38 people. The family donated land at Vernon and Grace Streets, and construction began in 1954. The church was dedicated on October 9, 1955, as a mission of St. Joseph in Spartanburg. It became a parish on June 15, 1981, with the arrival of Rev. Edward Tuohy. Today, it serves nearly 300 families.
