History of Resurrection of the Lord

Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church was established on September 29, 1981 by the Archdiocese of San Antonio. It was created as a daughter parish of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on the south side of San Antonio, along with two sister parishes, Divine Providence and St. Rose of Lima. By the early 1980s, St. Vincent de Paul had grown to roughly 3,000 registered families spread across a wide swath of south-side San Antonio, and the Archdiocese carved off new parishes to serve the expanding Military Drive West and surrounding neighborhoods. The Resurrection of the Lord St. Vincent de Paul conference began serving the poor in the spring of 1982 and has continued without interruption ever since — feeding families, assisting with rent, utilities, transportation and clothing, and partnering with local schools and the Bexar County Transition Center.

  • Established September 29, 1981 (per GCatholic)
  • Mother parish: St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, San Antonio
  • Sister daughter parishes (1981): Divine Providence and St. Rose of Lima
  • St. Vincent de Paul conference in continuous service since spring 1982

Parish Mission

The parish's published mission statement reads: "Our mission is to reflect God's saving love by promoting strong ministries that enrich every aspect of parish life through prayer and worship, education, family life, community outreach and charity. In doing this, we reflect the joy of the Risen Christ who dwells in us." The parish describes itself as a welcoming, supporting, reconciling and enabling community "from conception to death," especially attentive to those who find themselves on the margins of the Church and of society.

Pastor's Welcome — Fr. Roji Peter, HGN

The current administrator of the parish is Father Roji Peter, HGN, a priest of the Handmaids of the Good News religious congregation. In his welcome letter on the parish website, Fr. He invites anyone with a personal or family need to reach out to the parish staff or organization leaders.
