Resurrection Catholic Chapel is a bilingual (English/Spanish) Catholic mission parish serving the rural Moulton area of Lawrence County in northern Alabama, under the Diocese of Birmingham. Established in 1992 by the Glenmary Home Missioners, the chapel is currently administered by Deacon Rick Chenault, Sr., and welcomes Catholics and inquirers from across this historically Protestant region. After years meeting in the Old Morris Chapel near Hillsboro, the congregation relocated in November 2022 to a former Church of God building on Court Street in Moulton itself — the same town where the very first Catholic church of what would become the Diocese of Birmingham was erected in 1835. Sunday afternoon Masses in Spanish (3 p.m.) and English (5 p.m.), weekly Eucharistic Adoration, and a robust religious-education program serving 145 children make it a thriving, if small, rural Catholic outpost.

Resurrection Catholic Chapel is a Catholic mission parish in Moulton, Alabama, in the Diocese of Birmingham. Its bilingual Sunday liturgy — Spanish Mass at 3:00 PM and English Mass at 5:00 PM — and its open, welcoming ethos make it the spiritual home of Catholics and inquirers across Lawrence County. The parish is administered by Deacon Rick Chenault, Sr., with the support of Deacon Bob Catanach and a small staff and Religious Sisters. Church History
Catholicism first came to Moulton in 1835, when Rev. Peter Mauvernay erected the first Catholic Church in what would become the Diocese of Birmingham to serve local Irish settlers. That early congregation dissolved when Fr. Mauvernay was called to become president of Spring Hill College in Mobile. More than 150 years passed before the next Catholic presence took root.
Founding by the Glenmary Home Missioners (1992)
Resurrection Chapel was founded in 1992 by the Glenmary Home Missioners, a Catholic society devoted to serving rural, mission-territory communities. Deacon Robert (Bob) Laremore and his wife led the mission from its founding until Deacon Laremore's retirement in 2009. The chapel transferred to the Diocese of Birmingham in 2009, with Deacon Rick Chenault, Sr., stepping in as Coordinator/Administrator.
- 1835 – First Catholic Church in the future Diocese of Birmingham erected in Moulton by Rev. Peter Mauvernay (served Irish settlers).
- 1992 – Glenmary Home Missioners establish Resurrection Chapel; Deacon Bob Laremore and wife lead it.
- 2009 – Deacon Laremore retires; Resurrection officially becomes part of the Diocese of Birmingham; Deacon Rick Chenault, Sr., named Coordinator.
- 2012 – Chapel is established at the Old Morris Chapel, 4826 County Road 217, Hillsboro, AL; Bishop Robert J. Baker celebrates Mass and blesses the parish hall on March 27, 2012.
- November 12, 2022 – Congregation relocates to the former Church of God at 16335 Court Street, Moulton (built 1965, Rev. Martin Shelton).
- Bishop Steven Raica blesses the chapel's new altar in Moulton; the small community is praised as 'very enthusiastic.'
- June 7, 2026 – Founder Deacon Bob Laremore passes away; Funeral Mass celebrated June 12, 2026 at the chapel.

The chapel offers the normal sacraments for a Catholic mission parish — Baptism, First Communion, Reconciliation, and inquiry into the Catholic faith — with preparation programs tailored to both the English- and Spanish-speaking communities.

St. Joseph Family Life Center
Adjacent to the church on the Moulton property is the St. Joseph Family Life Center, originally added on to the former Church of God complex. It is large enough for about 100 people, includes a complete kitchen, and serves as the parish's classroom space, parish hall, dining room, offices, and St. Vincent de Paul Society storage area.
