Día de los Muertos Tradition
Each October the parish builds an elaborate Día de los Muertos altar in the church, a tradition brought from Veracruz and other parts of Mexico. According to KTXS reporting, parishioners such as Virginia Cerón spend the entire month of October crafting the altar, including roughly 8,000 hand-made paper flowers that decorate the carpet, stairs and backdrop. Fr. René Ángel was quoted saying, 'We are not praising the dead, but recalling those who have passed away already and who are in heaven.' The parish celebrates a Day of the Dead Mass as part of this devotion.
