Queen of Peace is a Roman Catholic parish in Patton, Pennsylvania, part of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown. About Queen of Peace Parish

The Traditional Latin Mass (Extraordinary Form)
Queen of Peace is the home of the only regular public celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass in the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and the only one between Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. The extraordinary Mass was reintroduced in 2007 under permission of Bishop Joseph V. Adamec, shortly after Pope Benedict XVI's Summorum Pontificum made the older rite publicly available. Father Ananias teaches the liturgy himself: he is required to know Latin and the precise rubrics of the 1962 Roman Missal.
- 1st Sundays – Full Solemnity High Mass: Asperges (sprinkling with holy water), incensing, torchbearers, and the St. Benedict Schola Cantorum chanting in Gregorian chant.
- 2nd Sundays – Low Mass
- 3rd Sundays – High Mass in simpler form, with the St. Benedict Schola Cantorum

- About 150–175 people attend each Sunday, including visitors from State College, Indiana, Johnstown, Somerset, and the Greensburg Diocese.
- Holy Communion is received kneeling at the rail, on the tongue; many women wear chapel veils; priest and acolytes wear traditional pre-Vatican II vestments (some over 100 years old).

Religious Education (CCD)
Queen of Peace runs a parish-based religious education program (CCD — Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) directed by Lois Normandin. Classes are held on Saturdays and occasionally include field trips to sacred sites such as the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel in Loretto, where students tour the basilica and learn about sacred objects. Parents are welcome to stay and are responsible for transportation.

Golden Rule Preschool
Queen of Peace Golden Rule Preschool is a nondenominational preschool located at 600 Palmer Avenue, Patton, PA, adjacent to the parish. It currently enrolls for the 2026–2027 school year and offers two programs focused on socialization and basic preschool/Pre-K skills, with small class sizes to keep a low teacher-to-child ratio.

St. Vincent de Paul Society (Patton Conference)
The parish hosts a local conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, which operates both a food pantry and a client-aid assistance program for neighbors in need in the Patton area. The conference meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 8:30 a.m., in the Queen of Peace Spiritual Resource Center, immediately following morning Mass. The conference also raises money through Friends Helping Friends Boscov coupon sales, with proceeds going directly to Queen of Peace SVdP client aid.

Knights of Columbus — Queen of Angels Council
The local council of the Knights of Columbus at Queen of Peace is the Queen of Angels Council (#16279). The council is closely tied to parish life and is best known for its popular take-out chicken dinners, which it prepares and serves from the upper level of the Parish Center on selected Sundays (typically 11:00 a.m. until sold out). The dinners include half a baked chicken, baked beans, cole slaw, a roll, and dessert.

Parish Activities & Fundraisers
The parish Activities Committee, chaired by Jack Conrad, organizes a busy calendar of fellowship and fundraising events throughout the year. These gatherings bring parishioners together and support the parish financially.
- Monthly Parish Breakfast — first Sunday of the month, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., lower hall. Prepared by the Men of the Parish. Adults $12, children 5–12 $7, under 5 free; take-outs $12.
- Take-Out Chicken Dinners — prepared by the Knights of Columbus on select Sundays, $12.
- Homemade Fruit Pie Pre-Order Sales — Apple, Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, Peach, Red Raspberry, Strawberry/Rhubarb. 5" pies $5, four for $20, 10" pies $20. Pre-order by calling the parish office.
- 6-Month Lottery Ticket/Card Fundraiser — $20/ticket (limited to 500). Sold out the last five years running.
- Bakery Blessings — annual holiday cookie and nut-roll fundraiser organized by Fr. Ananias, drawing hundreds of visitors to the social hall.
Visiting & Hospitality
The parish's stated identity draws on the Benedictine charism of hospitality. In its own description, Queen of Peace invokes Saint Benedict's seventh-chapter rule — 'treat all guests as Christ' — and welcomes all who present themselves at the parish's door, including the many out-of-town Catholics who travel to the Sunday Latin Mass. Parishioners are reminded, however, that they should register at the parish where they live, so their local pastor can better care for them.
