The Providence Medical Center Chapel is a Catholic prayer space located on the second floor near the main lobby of Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Although rooted in the Catholic tradition, the chapel welcomes patients, families, visitors, employees, and physicians of every faith for private prayer and reflection. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is meant to be a peaceful refuge in the midst of a busy hospital.

History of Providence Medical Center
Providence Medical Center was founded in 1920 by the Catholic Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, becoming the second Catholic hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1971, it merged with St. Margaret Hospital (which had been founded in 1886 by Father Anton Kuhls and managed for decades by the Sisters of the Poor of Saint Francis). The combined institution moved to its present location at 8929 Parallel Parkway in 1976. In 2013, Prime Healthcare acquired the hospital, but the Catholic heritage continues through the chapel, the Spiritual Care team, and the regular celebration of the sacraments. In 2020, the hospital marked its 100th year of service to Wyandotte County.

Liturgy and Communal Prayer Schedule
Daily liturgical opportunities are offered in the chapel and broadcast throughout the hospital on TV channel 43 so that bedridden patients can participate. Mass (Liturgy of the Eucharist) is celebrated several days a week, with Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion offered on the remaining weekdays.

The Spiritual Care department coordinates the spiritual needs of patients and their families in the Catholic tradition of valuing human life and promoting the whole person's health. The team believes spiritual care is an integral part of the healing process. They serve patients of all faiths and can either send a chaplain or help contact an outside faith leader.

Sacraments for Catholic Patients
The three Catholic sacraments most often requested in a hospital setting — Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, and the Eucharist — are routinely available to Catholic patients at Providence Medical Center. The chaplains bring Communion to the bedside and can arrange for Confession or Anointing at any time.

Non-Catholic Faith Support
Although the chapel itself and its regular liturgies are Catholic, the Spiritual Care team welcomes patients and families of every religious tradition. If a chaplain of a particular faith is needed, the team will attempt to contact the patient's own faith leader or arrange a visit from a local clergy person or lay minister who shares the patient's faith tradition.
