Parish History
Prince of Peace Parish was established in 1970 in Sun City Center, a master-planned retirement community in southern Hillsborough County, Florida. Over more than five decades the parish grew alongside its community, serving a largely retiree population that still defines its character. On May 10, 2025, the parish reached a notable milestone with the blessing of its new bell tower. Bishop Gregory Parkes was the principal celebrant at the special Mass and, in his homily, taught that bell towers are enduring symbols of faith whose ringing is a 'call to prayer and a reminder of God's presence.'

Prince of Peace offers an unusually full liturgical schedule for a parish its size. Daily Mass is celebrated Monday through Saturday at 8:00 AM and is livestreamed. Faith Formation & Sacrament Preparation
Sacrament Preparation at Prince of Peace follows the guidelines of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg: at least one year of Faith Formation followed by a second year of immediate sacramental preparation. Classes meet on Sundays in the Conessa Center and use the Sophia Institute's Spirit of Truth curriculum. First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation are each celebrated annually, with Confirmation typically held in May (historically at Resurrection Catholic Church for joint celebrations).

Bell Tower Milestone
On Sunday, May 10, 2025, the parish celebrated a special Mass and blessing of its new bell tower following the 12:00 PM Mass, with Bishop Gregory Parkes as principal celebrant. The bell tower is a visible landmark in Sun City Center and a spiritual symbol: the parish website notes that 'as the bells ring out over Sun City Center, they will continue to call the faithful to prayer and serve as a lasting sign of faith for generations to come.' The project grew out of a 'Bring Back the Bells!' parish initiative after the original bell system was removed during a renovation.

Parish Outreach & Catholic Ministry Appeal (CMA)
Beyond its sacramental and formation life, Prince of Peace actively participates in the Diocese of Saint Petersburg's Catholic Ministry Appeal (CMA). The 2026 CMA theme is 'Children of God,' and parishioners are invited to make a commitment that supports vital ministries across the diocese. The parish also actively promotes and supports the new Mater Dei Catholic School being built by the diocese in Ruskin on the grounds of St. Anne Parish.

Visiting Prince of Peace
