Our Lady Star of the Sea in St. Marys, Georgia, is the mother parish to the mission church St. Francis of Assisi in Folkston, which was founded in 1965 by Josephine and Frank Greco. The mission began in a relocated Presbyterian church and grew from five families to a thriving community, sustained by dedicated parishioners and priests. After decades of growth and challenges, including relocation and rebuilding, St. Francis moved into a new church dedicated in 2008. The parish remains deeply rooted in hospitality, faith, and community service, drawing visitors for its welcoming spirit and historic roots.

Our History
Founded in 1965 by Josephine and Frank Greco, who secured land and a relocated church building for Catholics in Folkston, Georgia. The first Mass was held in 1965 with five families. The parish was initially a mission of Our Lady Star of the Sea in St. Marys. After decades of growth and challenges, including a move to a new church site purchased in 1995, the parish built a new church dedicated on December 20, 2008. The mission continues to serve the community and travelers with a strong emphasis on hospitality and faith.
