History & Founding
The parish was established in 1993 in the Diocese of Amarillo, according to the GCatholic.org directory record (GCatholic Church ID 33405). It was founded to minister to Vietnamese Catholic immigrants and refugees in the Texas Panhandle — a community that had been taking shape in Amarillo since at least the late 1980s and early 1990s. Parishioners such as Sang K. Lam, a retired South Vietnamese Army officer and former POW who moved to Amarillo in 1991, were part of the founding generation of the parish. Over the years, the community has continued to invest in its church by importing devotional items directly from Vietnam, including a 14-piece set of Stations of the Cross, a statue of Mary, composite statues, a podium, columns, colored glass and a sound system — the most recent such shipment arriving in July 2024.
