History of the Lagunita Mission
The Lagunita chapel is part of a network of small mission churches that grew up around the old San Miguel del Vado parish as Hispano and Nuevomexicano Catholic families settled the ranching and farming communities of the upper Pecos valley. The mission's dedication to Our Lady of the Rosary is remembered in the adjacent Nuestra Senora de Rosario Cemetery, where generations of local families — including the Ulibarri, Arguello, Baca, Trujillo, and Aguilar families — are buried. Today the chapel continues to be served by the priests of San Miguel del Vado as one of seven mission churches.
