Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary is a Roman Catholic parish in the Diocese of Houma–Thibodaux serving the east Houma area of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. Founded in 1948 to give the growing east-side community its own church, the parish grew from humble beginnings — its original sanctuary was an Army chapel floated down from Gulfport, Mississippi, on a barge that was damaged in a bridge collision along the way. Today the parish offers weekend and weekday Masses, a perpetual adoration chapel, CCD religious education in the former parish school building, and active pastoral, finance, and building & grounds councils. Its patroness is Our Lady, Queen of the Rosary, and its mission centers on welcoming all to the Eucharist, faith formation, and works of peace and justice.

Parish History
Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary was conceived in March 1948 when the Rev. Maurice Shexnayder, then pastor of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in Houma, met with eight east-Houma laymen — F.E. Boudreaux, Easton Duplantis, Willis Walker, Joseph Duplantis, I.J. Pitre, Hayes Whitney, Phillip Whitney, and Hayes Bonvillain — to plan a new parish. Approved by Archbishop Joseph F. Rummel of New Orleans, the parish was officially established in September 1948 with the Rev. Anthony Wegmann as first pastor. The community worshipped in a community hall built from salvaged materials by J.E. "Hurry" Guidry until the relocated Army chapel was dedicated on March 20, 1949. The church was enlarged in 1954 (the same year the parish school opened), and remodeled in 1981 to its present 600-seat sanctuary. The school operated until 1971; its building now serves the parish's CCD program and is partly leased to Terrebonne Parish Head Start. The parish marked its 25th anniversary in 1973 with a Jubilee Directory.

Faith Formation: CCD & Children's Programs
Religious education takes place in the former parish school building, which opened in 1954 and continued as a school until 1971. Today it serves the parish's CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) program, with registration forms posted annually for the coming school year. The parish also runs a 'Come Listen' children's program during the 11:00 AM Sunday Mass and a Sunday-evening Youth Mass at 6:00 PM.

The parish campus grew along with the community in east Houma. The original 1948 Army-chapel sanctuary was enlarged in 1954, remodeled in 1981, and now seats about 600. Supporting buildings include a rectory, a community center, and the former school building (1954–1971), which today hosts CCD and is partly leased to Terrebonne Parish Head Start.
