Our Lady of the Assumption Parish (OLA) is a Roman Catholic parish in Carmichael, California, in the Diocese of Sacramento, established in 1950 to serve the growing post-war suburban population northeast of Sacramento. The parish community today includes more than 1,600 families who worship, serve, and form community through its parish school, Faith Formation programs, the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA), the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and other ministries. The parish is pastored by Rev. Eduino T. Silveira and serves as the spiritual home for both the church and the adjacent Our Lady of the Assumption School (K-8), which opened in 1955.

Parish History & Mission
Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Parish was established in Carmichael, California in 1950 under founding pastor Father Thomas Bannon to serve a growing post-war Catholic population in suburban Sacramento. A place for Sunday worship was built two years later, and the physical plant expanded over the decades with a parish school, a convent and chapel for the teaching nuns, the current church in the mid-1960s, and additional ministry buildings. Today more than 1,600 families belong to OLA, served by pastor Rev. Eduino T. Silveira, Deacon Michael Tateishi, and Pastors Emeriti Rev. Brendan McKeefry and Rev. Michael F. Kiernan. The parish's stated mission is to proclaim the Word of God more faithfully, serve the people of God especially in meeting the needs of the poor in the local community and around the world, and build a sense of parish community among parishioners and the wider diocesan community.

Faith Formation (Religious Education)
Faith Formation at OLA is described as life-long catechesis — 'how do I practically and authentically live the Catholic Faith?' The Children's Faith Formation program generally serves families with students in grades K-8 who attend public schools or non-Catholic private schools. The curriculum uses stories, arts and crafts, music, and videos based on the weekly Gospel reading. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Bannon Hall. The program includes preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation / First Eucharist (grade 2) and Confirmation (grade 8); students must participate in two consecutive years prior to receiving these sacraments.

Becoming Catholic (OCIA)
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA, formerly RCIA) is the process through which adults are fully initiated into the OLA Faith Community through the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. It is for those never baptized, baptized in another Christian community seeking full communion, or baptized Catholics who have not yet received Confirmation and Holy Communion. Preparation usually lasts at least one year and follows four periods: Inquiry, Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment (typically Lent, with initiation at the Easter Vigil), and Mystagogy (the Easter season).

Youth Ministry
Young people in grades 7-12 are invited to grow in their relationship with Jesus and build a peer faith community through prayer, media, service, and recreational events. The mission of OLA's youth ministry is to engage and transform the lives of youth through the sacramental life of the Catholic Church. Parish School
Our Lady of the Assumption School opened on September 7, 1955, fulfilling the vision of founding pastor Father Thomas Bannon that a Catholic education be available to all young people of the parish. Originally staffed by nuns of the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), the school today serves approximately 300 children in preschool, transitional kindergarten, and kindergarten through grade eight. A Preschool and Transitional-Kindergarten program was added in 2011. In addition to its standards-based curriculum, the school offers programs in art, music, science and computer skills along with a comprehensive athletic program and an extended care program on school days. Principal Robert Love has led the school since August 2005 (with a 2017–2019 assignment to the Sacramento Catholic District School Department, returning June 2019).
