Why belong here
Our Lady of Sorrows offers the warmth of a small-town Louisiana Catholic parish where the faithful can know their priests and each other by name. With Sunday Mass at 8:00 am and a weekday Mass on Thursdays at noon, the parish keeps a steady rhythm of Eucharistic life, while a robust devotional schedule — including Stations of the Cross during Lent, the Blue Army Rosary, and a First Saturdays Rosary — invites parishioners into deeper Marian and Eucharistic prayer. As part of the Diocese of Alexandria's Avoyelles Deanery, the parish is also historically tied to the missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows, whose arrival in Moreauville in 1947 shaped Catholic education across central Louisiana.

History of the Parish
Our Lady of Sorrows was established in 1944 in Moreauville, at a time when the Avoyelles region was experiencing growth in its Catholic parishes. Just three years later, in October 1947, the Italian Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows (Suore Pie Operaie dell'Immacolata Concezione / Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Sorrows) sent thirteen sisters to Moreauville at the invitation of Bishop Charles P. Greco. From this Moreauville foundation, the sisters initially taught at Our Lady of Sorrows School, the Don Bosco Boys Home in Cottonport, and St. Anthony's School in Cottonport, before expanding their educational mission to communities across the Diocese of Alexandria and beyond.
