Our Lady of Prompt Succor is a Roman Catholic parish in Sulphur, Louisiana, in the Diocese of Lake Charles. The parish's roots stretch back to 1907, when the first Catholic church in Sulphur was built as a mission of Immaculate Conception; on July 13, 1919, that mission chapel was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady of Prompt Succor, and on June 29, 1919, Bishop Jules B. Jeanmard formally established it as a parish with Fr. Joseph LeBerre as first pastor. A century later, Our Lady of Prompt Succor serves the Sulphur/Calcasieu community with a robust liturgical schedule — including a Latin Mass every Sunday, daily Mass in a day chapel, perpetual Adoration, and a full sacramental program for children and adults — and is one of the six parishes that together operate Our Lady's Catholic School (Pre-K through 8th grade). Currently pastored by Very Reverend Edward Richard, M.S. (a priest of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, M.S.), the parish is also home to St. Vincent de Paul charitable outreach and a wide range of ministries for youth, adults, and families.

Parish History
Catholic life in Sulphur traces to 1907, when Monsignor Hubert Cramers, pastor of Immaculate Conception in Lake Charles, built the city's first Catholic church on the corner of Huntington and Logan (later Cypress) Streets as a mission chapel of Immaculate Conception. On July 13, 1919 the building was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady of Prompt Succor, and earlier that year, on June 29, 1919, Bishop Jules B. Jeanmard formally elevated the mission to a parish and appointed Fr. Joseph LeBerre as first pastor. The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette took over in 1921 and remain the parish's sponsoring order to this day. A second church was built on the site in 1922 and blessed by Bishop Jeanmard in October 1924 — that building still stands and is now used as the Sulphur Judicial Center, with plans to repurpose it as St. Francis de Sales Oratory under the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

Sacraments & Sacramental Preparation
The parish prepares the faithful for every sacrament of the Catholic Church. Parents and godparents must attend a baptism class held at the parish on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM (call 337-527-6722). Children in the parish school prepare for First Reconciliation and First Communion over a two-year program in 1st and 2nd grade, and teens prepare for Confirmation through the dedicated Confirmation program.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry
Our Lady of Prompt Succor runs a full complement of faith-formation programs for children and teens. CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) meets Wednesday evenings for Pre-K through 5th grade, a junior-high program gathers 6th–8th graders Wednesday evenings 6:15–7:30 PM, and the high-school Life Teen ministry is anchored at the 5:00 PM Sunday Mass followed by a gathering in the youth house. Vacation Bible School is offered each June for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade.

Our Lady's Catholic School
Our Lady's Catholic School is the parish school for Our Lady of Prompt Succor and is jointly owned and operated by six Sulphur-area parishes: Our Lady of Prompt Succor (Sulphur), Our Lady of La Salette (Sulphur), Immaculate Conception (Sulphur), St. Theresa (Carlyss), St. Joseph (Vinton), and St. John Bosco (Westlake). Serving Pre-K through 8th grade, the school is approved by the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Diocese of Lake Charles and holds SACS and National Catholic Education Association accreditation. Students attend weekly Mass on Wednesdays at 9:30 AM across the street at the parish church.

Following the example of its patron, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, the parish supports the poor and vulnerable through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and ongoing service projects — including food and clothing drives, Christmas Angels, and support of foreign missions through Holy Childhood Quarter Folders at Advent and Rice Bowls at Lent.
