Parish Mission Statement

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Parish is a faith-filled community for all cultures and ages dedicated to building the Kingdom of God. Parishioners come closer to God by following Jesus Christ through His Word and the Sacraments, and through the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Our Blessed Mother they provide a sense of belonging to all God's people through prayer, service, and the sharing of gifts for the praise and glory of God.

Parish History

Catholic worship in the Ewa district dates to the 1840s, when Fr. Arsenius Walsh made regular visits. The first assigned priest, Fr. Aganthange Froult, arrived in 1855, and a permanent church was built at Honouliuli as the sugar plantation grew. Immaculate Conception Church on Renton Road was built in 1929; Our Lady of Perpetual Help began in 1949 as a mission from Immaculate Conception on Fort Weaver Road and became an independent parish in July 1969 under Bishop John Scanlon. Construction of the present North Road church began in October 1977 and was formally dedicated on April 9, 1978.

• 1855 — Fr. Aganthange Froult first assigned to the Ewa district
• 1929 — Immaculate Conception Church built on Renton Road in Ewa
• 1949 — Bishop Sweeney approves a new mission on Fort Weaver Road
• 1951 — Mission completed and blessed by Bishop Sweeney; named 'Our Lady of Perpetual Help'
• 1967 — Our Lady of Perpetual Help School opens (blessed August 1967)
• 1969 — OLPH becomes an independent parish; Fr. Francis Phillips named first full-time pastor
• 1977 — Construction begins on the present North Road church; midnight Christmas Mass celebrated under open sky
• 1978 — Formal dedication of the new church by Bishop Scanlon on April 9

Faith Formation and Religious Education

The parish runs an ongoing CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) program for children and an OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) process for older children, teens, and adults seeking the sacraments of initiation. Julia Torres, the Director of Religious Education, coordinates registration and the work of catechists.

Sacraments

OLPH prepares parishioners for Baptism, Confirmation, First Communion, marriage, and the reception of adults into full communion through OCIA. Infant Baptisms are scheduled monthly outside of Advent and Lent.

• Infant Baptism — celebrated monthly except in Advent and Lent; mandatory preparation class for parents and godparents
• Reconciliation (Confession) — Saturday 4:00 – 4:30 PM and by appointment
• First Holy Communion — through the CCD / CFC program
• Confirmation — through the CCD / CFC program
• OCIA — for unbaptized adults, baptized adults needing Confirmation/Eucharist, and Christians from other traditions

Parish Ministries

OLPH supports a range of liturgical and community ministries, with publicly published rotation schedules so parishioners can sign up to serve. The parish also reaches out to youth, young adults, and cultural/ethnic groups across the Ewa Beach community.

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School

Our Lady of Perpetual Help School is the parish's K–8 elementary school, sharing the North Road campus just across from the church. Originally staffed by six Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary, it opened in September 1967 and today partners with parents to educate students 'for life' as Active Catholics, Responsive Producers, Holistic Learners, and Capable Communicators.
