Our History
Founded in 1906 by Italian immigrants, the parish began in a private home before moving to a renovated Robbins Avenue house. It was named 'Our Lady of Mount Carmel' by the Italian community. Over the decades, it faced challenges including priest shortages, financial debt, and denial of building permits, but persevered through community efforts like the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society and St. Rita’s Club. The parish has grown from 1,500 members in 1913 to a thriving community today, now part of Saint Pope John XXIII Parish since 2024.
Religious Education
PSR (Parish School of Religion) is provided for children in Kindergarten through Grade 8 who are unable to attend a Catholic school. Classes are held Sunday mornings, 10:10 AM - 11:20 AM, September through April. Registration is open and includes online forms for medical and absence notifications. Volunteers are always needed. Contact the office for questions.
