Our Lady of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic parish in the historic Grove neighborhood of Pueblo, Colorado, serving Roman Catholics in the city for 125 years. Founded as a national church for Italian immigrants in the late 1800s and formally established as a parish in 1920, the community was started by priests of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and grew into a magnet for anyone wishing to attend Mass. Today the parish continues to celebrate Mass in both English and Spanish (with a First Saturdays Latin Mass), offers daily and weekend Masses, Eucharistic Adoration, traditional Marian devotions including Our Lady of Guadalupe and Las Posadas, and a robust religious education and sacramental preparation program for children, youth and adults.

Parish History
Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the historic Catholic parishes of Pueblo, Colorado. Its roots go back to the late 1800s, when the area was settled by Italian immigrants who came to work in southern Colorado's mines and at the Colorado Fuel and Iron (CF&I) Steel Mill. The community was started by the priests of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), and the church on Clark Street was built in 1901 to serve the growing Italian Catholic population. The parish was formally established in 1920. Originally a national church for Italian immigrants, Mount Carmel quickly became a place where anyone who wished to attend Mass was welcome, and successive generations of families — including the Paglione family — have called it home.

Marian Devotions and Parish Festivals
Marian devotion is a hallmark of life at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Two Pilgrim Virgin statues are taken weekly to parishioners' homes for a week of the Rosary: Our Lady of Mount Carmel is taken from the English Masses every weekend, and Our Lady of Guadalupe is taken to homes weekly from January to November, remaining in the church during the Guadalupe and Christmas Novenas through Epiphany. Each year the parish celebrates the seasonal Novenas of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 3–12) and Las Posadas (December 16–23), and the elevation of the Holy Child on Epiphany. The Mayordomos for the current Our Lady of Guadalupe feast are Gloria Aguilar and Laura and Jesus Garcia.

Parish Organizations and Ministries
Beyond the liturgy, the parish hosts a number of ongoing organizations, including a Catholic Charismatic Group, the Missionaries of Jesus (a community committed to evangelization through retreats and Catholic media such as the MDJ International App and Radio Jesús), and the Catholic Christian Family Movement, which promotes Christian family values and helps form engaged couples. Two distinct teams of altar servers serve the English and Spanish Masses. Eucharistic Ministers are commissioned periodically; the most recent group includes Evan Guerrero, Briana and Joe Davis, Albeiro Vargas Castillo, and Alan Miranda. The Festival Committee and 125th Anniversary Committee organize the annual parish menudo sale, raffles, and summer festival.

Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation
Our Lady of Mount Carmel offers a full Sacramental Preparation program for children, youth and adults in both English and Spanish, plus the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) for those seeking to become Catholic or to be received into Full Communion. Adult Sacrament Preparation meets Thursday evenings at 7:00 PM in the basement of the Tafoya House at 229 Clark Street.

Becoming a Parishioner
Registration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel is intentionally simple: come into the office and ask to register, and you are enrolled. Anyone who signs up for sacramental programs or religious education is also counted as a parishioner. The parish then keeps you informed through the bulletin, pulpit announcements, and Flock Notes for urgent communications from Father Don.
