Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Easton, Minnesota, is a historic Catholic parish with roots dating back to 1861, when Masses were first celebrated in settlers’ homes. The parish grew to support a permanent church built in 1885, and after several expansions and renovations, the current church was consecrated in 1916 — marking its 50th anniversary. Today, it is part of a Tri-Parish Faith Community that includes St. Casimir and St. John the Baptist, serving a region with deep Catholic heritage. History
Masses were first celebrated in settlers’ homes from 1861-1866. By 1866, a log church named St. Mary’s (Wesner’s Grove) was built. In 1885, a framed church named Our Lady of Mount Carmel was built in town. The original St. Mary’s church burned in 1926. The current church was consecrated in 1916, marking its 50th anniversary. The parish celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2016. The school operated from 1950 until 2001, staffed largely by Franciscan Sisters. Major renovations occurred in 1999-2000 and the 133-foot steeple was rebuilt 2008-2009.
Sacraments
Baptism: Contact the parish office a month in advance to fill out the form and to attend Baptism Mentoring Sessions. Marriage: All Catholics need to meet with a Priest at least six months before being married (even if the wedding is in a non-Catholic church). Contact the Tri-Parish office at least one year before your scheduled wedding date. RCIA: If you or someone you know would like more information on becoming Catholic please contact the Tri-Parish office.
