Why belong here

Our Lady of Miracles is a welcoming rural Catholic mission that brings the Sunday Eucharist to the people of Sierra Blanca in the vast Hudspeth County desert. Parishioners are served by an active lay leadership team — Guadalupanas, Knights of Columbus, altar servers, children's choir, religious formation, baptismal preparation, and safe-environment programs — supported by the dedicated diocesan priests of the West Texas vicariate. Because the parish is small and visits are by appointment, members experience a tight-knit faith community where every family is known and the Mass is offered in both English and Spanish to reflect the bilingual character of the borderlands.

History of the Mission

Catholic missionary presence in the far West Texas desert stretches back to the late 19th century, when the territory was served from the Vicariate Apostolic of Arizona and later from the Diocese of Dallas. With the founding of the Diocese of El Paso in 1914, a vast network of small parishes and missions — including those in Hudspeth County — came under diocesan care, supported by missionary priests who traveled by car and horseback. Sierra Blanca's Our Lady of Miracles is documented by the Texas Historical Commission in records dated May 1978. Today it operates as a mission of Our Lady of Fatima Parish (founded 1945) in Van Horn.
