Parish History and Identity
Our Lady of Mercy Parish is the 2008 successor parish to three older Genesee County faith communities—St. Peter's (LeRoy), St. Joseph's (LeRoy), and St. Anthony (Lime Rock)—consolidated by the Diocese of Buffalo in July 2008 to form a single worshipping community on Lake Street. From the start it was paired with St. Brigid Church in Bergen (formerly merged with St. Michael's Mission, South Byron), and the two now operate as one Catholic Family under a single pastoral team. The parish's name is itself a tribute to the religious order that runs it.
- Established: July 2008 by the Diocese of Buffalo
- Constituent parishes merged: St. Peter's (LeRoy), St. Joseph's (LeRoy), St. Anthony (Lime Rock)
- Administered jointly with St. Brigid (Bergen) since 2008
- Initially two LeRoy sites (St. Peter's and St. Joseph Oratory); consolidated to the former St. Peter's / Holy Family School site after the oratory was sold
The Mercedarian Connection
Our Lady of Mercy takes its name, and a significant part of its identity, from the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (O. de M.), the Mercedarian Fathers, whose U.S. Province has staffed the parish since the early 2000s. The order's distinctive devotional hallmark—the Mercedarian Salve—is prayed after the Saturday morning Mass, and a special Litany for the Captives is added on the last Saturday of the month. Mercedarian friars currently serving at the parish include Fr. Scottston F. Brentwood (Administrator), Fr. Eugene Costa, and Br. Raymond J. Colombaro.

Faith Formation and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

CGS is led by catechist Chelsea Fink ([email protected]) and operates on its own seasonal calendar with sign-up tours and Amazon/Montessori Services wish lists for supplies. Adult Faith Formation meets on Wednesday evenings online from 6:30–8:00 PM under Denise Spadaccia, the parish youth/young-adult minister.
