Parish History

McElhone founded the Weatherly charge as a mission of St. Joseph Parish in Lowrytown, laying the cornerstone of St. Nicholas Church on October 25, 1874. St. Nicholas became an independent parish in 1902 under Rev. Francis X. Wastl, who oversaw construction of the present church in 1907. In 1916 the parish opened a mission church on Buck Mountain dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes, and in 1921 it welcomed the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary to staff a parochial school that operated until 1981.

Consolidation into All Saints Parish
In 2008, the Diocese of Allentown merged St. Nicholas Parish in Weatherly with St. Mary Parish in Beaver Meadow to create the new Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, continuing to use the former St. Nicholas building. On July 1, 2016, citing the retirement of pastor Rev. Floyd Caesar, Jr. and a shrinking priest pool, the diocese further consolidated Our Lady of Lourdes with All Saints Parish in McAdoo. Monsignor William Baker, pastor of All Saints since 2012, became pastor of both churches. Parishioners appealed to the Vatican Congregation for Clergy, but the appeal was rejected in 2017, and Our Lady of Lourdes has remained a worship site of All Saints Parish ever since. In 2025, Bishop Alfred A. Schlert named Rev. Barnabas Shayo, A.J. as pastor of All Saints Parish effective June 17, 2025.
